Do you struggle with staying focused in prayer? Is your prayer life constantly interrupted?
Prayer is like glue; it connects us with God and it holds everything together.
Our prayer time should be planned, reserved, and held just for God.
Undistracted prayer leads to undesirable results. When our focus has been directed away from God we have lost our experience with Him and remove ourselves from receiving the answer to our prayers and revelations about what’s to come.
Jeremiah 33:3 AMP “Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.”
It’s not that our intentions are wrong but that the enemy motives are always wicked. He plots to overload our mind with distractions. He wants to block us from entering into intimacy with the Father.
He knows distractions causes delay. Distracted prayers detains us from going deeper to grab a hold on what God has for us in the secret place.
We must always be alert and aware of Satan’s efforts and methods to keep us disconnected from God.
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.”
The enemy wants to weaken our prayer life with God by attacking our concentration leaving us unfocused and ineffective in our time with God in prayer.
What are distractions?
The dictionary defines it as “a thing that prevent someone from giving full attention to something else”.
You ever notice how you set your mind on seeking God in prayer, you have a desire to go deeper, a longing for the more of Him and as soon as you enter into prayer all sorts of thoughts begin to travel through your mind and all sorts of stuff start happening.
The enemy wants to shift our attention causing us to lose focus on the Heavenly Father to something of lesser importance.
What are some things that could be distracting your prayer life?
When our mind is so consumed with the cares of this world we drift away from God. Distractions lead us right out of God’s presence.
While they are many solutions to help overcome distractions to prayer I would like to offer this one which probably covers them all and that is “FIND A SCERET PLACE AND SHUT THE DOOR.”
Create a secret place; it’s a sacred space that is holy (set apart) for just you and God. This place should exclude any and all outside influences. Your secret place is your portal to the throne of God, it is a place where you should be able to come immediately into His presence. It is a space where the whole person (mind, heart, body and soul) come into connection with God. Once you enter this atmosphere “SHUT THE DOOR” from everything that attempts to draw you away from the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Shutting the door is to resolve in your heart and mind that no one or nothing is allowed to enter. Once you enter into this place of intimacy with God you close out distractions and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:5). We isolate ourselves so we can enjoy every second of intimacy with God.
You shut the door mentally, physically and emotionally so that you can connect with God. You leave worry out, you leave tomorrow agenda out, you leave cell phones out, leave you daily tasks out, you give no place for the enemy in your closet to bring distractions and destroy your intimacy with God. Your closet (sacred place) is only big enough for you and God everything else must STAY OUT!!
“SHUT THE DOOR” so you can enjoy deep intimacy with God.
